They say “baby steps”, we say “leaps and bounds.”
A supportive and reliable BDM is more important to brokers than rate cuts or commission bumps, according to a report from Australia Broker. At My Local Aggregation we agree that support is critical in helping a broker create and maintain a successful business. We’ve all heard the saying – “to be the best, learn from the best.”
With that in mind I’d like to introduce National Sales Manager, Ross Laurenson (pictured left), AKA Rosco. Rosco is a well known industry veteran in the broking space and a strong form of support for our brokers. After his career at Aussie Home Loans in 1996, he worked with a wide range of companies including Suncorp, Wizard Home Loans, Resimac, Buy Property Direct and Vow Financial. Additionally, he opened his own mortgage business, Home Loans by the Bay in 2005 and later sold it in 2008.
In 2010, he opened a Yellow Brick Road franchise in Frankston which won the number one office in Victoria for 37 months in a row. If you’re after advice from someone experienced, it doesn’t get much better than that. His broking days are over but I think anyone who knows Rosco would agree that his passion couldn’t be more alive. Rosco’s expert knowledge and working experience allows him to work with all kinds of brokers, from fresh new-to-industry through to the most established of brokers. Apart from being business-minded, Rosco also has fantastic interpersonal skills and makes an effort to get to know his clients on a personal level, always keeping in touch.
So why the big fuss?
Well, a group of our brokers have just completed their Cert IV in Finance and Mortgage Broking with the help of our in house mentor and support staff and we wanted to acknowledge this great achievement. The first year of broking is the toughest, but we’ve watched these brokers power through their requirements and know they’re on their way to bigger and better things. There is always room to improve, whether that be on a business or personal level and with a strong, experienced support network, we ensure brokers are always receiving the right advice from the right people.
In the end, it comes down to surrounding yourself with the people that are going to teach, lift and help you grow, to do this they need to be experienced. Poor support will open you to making poor decisions and mistakes. Instead of learning from ‘your’ mistakes, why not learn from someone else’s mistakes and implement the right strategies and processes in your business right from the start. Learn from the people who have been through it all and know what can go wrong. Set yourself up for success, not failure.
